Why this itinerary?

A truly unique experience in Northern Tanzania for those who seek adventure; getting off the beaten track!


Combining a triumvirate of mountain biking, hiking and traditional safari game drives, this itinerary allows participants more time and access to first hand experiences rather than ‘standard’ driving only safaris. Incorporating the greater Tarangire ecosystem, the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro, and the world famous Serengeti – this trip is designed for those that have an adventurous spirit and want to engage in their environment.



After a morning orientation you set off in your safari vehicles to the starting point of the ride. Descending off the Mt Meru pediment you meet the mountain bikes and set off cross country into the Maasai Steppe. A picnic lunch is taken on route and by late afternoon we arrive into our specially prepared bush camp. Dinner & overnight Plains Camp (full board).

Day 2

The Maasai Steppe covers a massive area from the Usambaras to the rift valley and today we cycle across plains and rolling hills towards the greater Tarangire ecosystem. Game disperses here during the rainy season and with luck we will see game on route. Our support team sets up lunch for us on route and in the heat of the day we rest under spreading branches of an acacia tree. In the mid afternoon we set off once more and by late afternoon we arrive in camp for a hot shower and dinner with stars as our roof! Dinner and overnight Kopje Camp (full board).

Day 3

The area afford a wealth of activities and today we set off for a game walk looking for traces of animals. Led by an experienced guide with local trackers we may even see some game on foot. Lunch is taken in the bush and when the temperature cools we return to ascend a nearby hill for stunning views of the surrounding wilderness. Dinner & overnight Kopje Camp (full board).

Day 4

From our wilderness camps we now head into Tarangire National Park for more traditional game viewing in our specially built safari vehicles. Tarangire is around 2,500 km squared and hosts around 1 elephant per km! The Tarangire River is a lifeline here and in the middle of the day lots of animals can be found watering – predators are plentiful here too! In the late afternoon we head to our lodge for sundowners. Dinner & overnight Tented Lodge (full board).

Day 5

Our bikes rejoin us today and we set off mid morning into a more rural environment passing piteresque villages along the Great Rift Valley. Rivers, fed from the forests of the Ngorongoro highlands above, our down the rift wall and provide year round sustainance for farming and we pass through farms. Lunch is taken at a secnic spot and after lunch we ride all the way to the southern end of Lake Manyara. Here we leave our bikes and game drive through Lake Manyara, visit hot springs, thick ground water forest, lake shore and acacia woodlands looking for wildlife. In the late afternoon we head to our lodge for showers and dinner. Overnight Farm House (full board).

Day 6

The Ngorongoro crater is a truly magnifiscent geological feature and it is also packed with around 20,000 large mammals! We leave early this morning in our safari vehicles and armed with picnic lunches we spend a day game driving in the crater looking for black rhino and massive bull elephants. Lion are plentiful here as are hyaena and with the backdrop of the crater walls the photography is fantastic. We return back to our lodge for dinner. Overnight Farm House (full board).

Day 7

This morning we transfer to the Serengeti. The drive is broken up with a visit to Olduvai Musueum and the shofting sands. We take a picnic lunch at an opportune point in the plains and then continue onto our Serengeti camp. Our great team has set up the camp in advance of our arrival and welcomes us in for sundowners after a hot shower. Dinner & overnight Serengeti Camp (full board).

Day 8

The Serengeti is a vast eco system but our camp is set according to the best game locations. From our camp we head out and game drive looking for elusive leaopard and depending on the time of year, the migrating herds of wildebeests. Back in camp we have a final celebratory dinner surrounded by the wilderness and stars. Overnight Serengeti Camp (full board).

Day 9

In the morning we say a fond farewell to our crew and then head to the airstrip to connect with a scheduled charter to Arusha. Here we transfer to Arusha town where a day room is held for you to freshen up and in the late afternoon you transfer to connect with international departures at Kilimanjaro airport (note connections to Zanzibar or Kenya are also possible).
