Why this itinerary?

For those that want to do Mt Kenya in a relatively short time and still enjoy a great route then this is a great choice. As this trip uses huts rather than camping it is also a good choice for those wanting a lower priced hike.


A 5 day trip starting at Sirimon and ending at Naro Moru. This trip uses HUTS on Mt Kenya. As with all Summits Africa trips, great guides and crew come as standard.


Kilimanjaro: afromontane forest, bamboo zone, glacial valleys and alpine desert, views of Mt Kenya, ascent of Lenana and views of the Lewis glaciers and others. Possible sighting of wildlife.

In Detail

At 0800hrs you will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel (or Nanyuki) and transferred to the Sirimon Park gate (alt.2700m). After a picnic lunch; you start an acclimatization hike in the tropical woodland occasionally enjoying the sighting of a monkey, a buffalo or even an elephant arriving at Old Moses camp (alt.3200m) in the early evening. Dinner and overnight at the Old Moses camp.


Depart the camp after breakfast and set off for the Shiptons camp(alt.4200m).On the way enjoy the picturesque views of the Mackinders valley and the Shiptons caves besides the amazing mountain vegetation constituting of the lobelias and the giant groundsels. Arrive at Shipton’s in the late afternoon, dinner and overnight at the Shipton’s Camp.


At 0300hrs wake up and have some tea and biscuits. Start the attempt of the scree to the summit, point Lenana (alt.4985m), which is the highlight of our trip! After taking photos with the sunrise, descend slowly to the Mackinder’s Camp(alt.4300m) where we will have some breakfast .Afternoon at leisure with an optional visit to the Two tarns, dinner and overnight at Mackinder’s camp.


Depart the camp after breakfast and walk leisurely down the vertical bog arriving at the Met station(alt.3050m) in time for lunch. Dinner and overnight at the met station.


At 0800hrs depart the camp and walk through the bamboo forest to connect with your transfer vehicle at the Naromoru gate and transfer back to Nairobi (or Nanyuki / Nanyuki airstrip).
