Mt Meru is the second highest peak in Tanzania and #7 in Africa. Guests normally hike this in 4 days but there are 3 day variations and 2 day by special (sometimes denied) request. For youngsters also consider hiking as far as Saddle Hut, summitting little Meru or Rhino point and not attempting the summit. Stunning afromontane forest in which you are likely to see bushbuck, Colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and wonderful bird life too. Very underrated compared to her larger sister Kilimanjaro! Be aware, through the forest sections rangers are SHARED between groups so don’t expect to trek by yourself. A great frustration but hard to circumvent!
Best Mt Meru trip: Mt Meru 4 days / 3 nights
Faster for very fit people: Mt Meru 3 days / 2 nights OR for those not attempting to summit but note a LONG day downhill.
